Give Chance A Dance
Bringing dance, particularly hip hop, to the masses, Ipoh Parade and d’Artiz Streetdance Studio organised a charity dance competition at the shopping complex on Sunday afternoon.
Although the contest was open to dance students from d’Artiz Streetdance Studio and Yencci Dance Studio only, it attracted the participation of 18 groups.
This coming Sunday, Aug 24, another dance competition will be held at Ipoh Parade. Named Bboy 1-on-1 Battle, the contest is open to public participation.
Registration fee of RM10 per contestant collected from both competitions as well as cash donations from the public will benefit the EduFun Centre, a service project by Soroptimist International Ipoh (SI Ipoh).
These dance competitions carry a deeper meaning with the objective of giving a better life to marginalised children under the Edufun programme.
Moreover, from these activities, the public can see for themselves that dance is a healthy lifestyle, although some people may have a negative perception towards some genre of dances such as hip hop and break dance.
At Give Chance A Dance, most of the groups put up really entertaining performances. Particularly outstanding, to me, were Little Soldier, Yencci Juniors Formation and HB4.
Participants were given points by judges Joel Tan (founder of Urban Groove Dance Network) and Veroy Ng (professional instructor of Zumba Fitness and Yencci Dance Studio) based on movement precision with music (15%), teamwork (15%), movement precision with teammates (15%), showmanship (15%), facial expression and interaction between performers and audience (15%), confidence (15%), attire and make-up (10%).
At the end of the day, there could only be one champion and the title went to Yencci Juniors Formation, who danced to three tracks, and fluidly switched from one dance style to another without a pause. The six youngsters shared out the prize money of RM600, among other sponsored gifts.
First runner-up went to four cute girls by the name HB4. They took home RM400. Third place, with a cash prize of RM200, was won by D’Knight.
The event was presented by Magnum and sponsored by MyGopeng Resort and tenants of Ipoh Parade: Laser Battle, Kbox Karaoke, Foot Action, B&L Café and Ben’s Burger. Besides cash prizes, they also sponsored cash vouchers.
