From Endurance to Empowerment: Let’s Support Dave Spence’s Charity Challenge
For most people, fitness is about staying in shape, but for Dave Spence, it’s a way to give back to the community. In May, this sexagenarian endurance athlete will take on the 10×10 Challenge, a brutal test of strength and endurance, to raise funds for two meaningful charities in the state of Perak.
With just 10 weeks to train, Dave pushes himself to the limit, all in the name of helping children in need.
The Man Behind the Mission
Originally from London, Dave has called Ipoh home since 2013. His journey has taken him across the world, from Kuala Lumpur to Taipei and Manila, before finally settling in Malaysia’s charming heritage city.
Though his professional life is packed with leadership coaching, mentoring, and organising kids’ events, Dave’s heart is set on a challenge that serves a greater purpose.
“I’ve always been into fitness, but this challenge is about more than just personal endurance. It’s about giving back to the community, and inspiring others to do the same,” says Dave.

What Is the 10×10 Challenge?
Designed by Shum Chiew Mun, founder of Shum’s Ultimate Fitness Gym (SUF), the challenge celebrates a decade of SUF’s commitment to community wellness.
On 1st May 2025, at Ipoh Polo Ground, Dave will take on 10 rounds of the following exercises in less than four hours.
10-minute dumbbell workout (10kg DBs)
10 lunges (10kg vest)
10 push-ups (10kg vest)
10 box jumps (10kg vest)
10 BOSU squats (10kg vest)
1km run (10kg vest)
10 pull-ups
10 burpees
10 sit-ups
10 dips
Why This Challenge Matters
Dave’s efforts will support two vital causes:
1. The Salvation Army Children’s Home – Providing shelter, care, and education for underprivileged children.
2. The Orang Asli Education Fund (supported by Jiwa Asli Organik) – Giving Indigenous children access to better educational opportunities.
“These causes are close to my heart because they focus on supporting future generations. If I can make a difference by pushing my limits, why wouldn’t I?” Dave questioned.

How You Can Help
Dave’s goal is to raise at least RM10000, so every contribution counts. Supporters can pledge a fixed amount or an amount per round completed (e.g., MYR100 per round = MYR1000 if he completes all 10 rounds).
Donations go directly to the chosen charities under the reference “10×10 Challenge.”
Not able to donate? No problem! Show up, cheer him on, or even join Dave for a round to experience the challenge firsthand.
