Championship Match 2012 Sultan Azlan Shah Cup – New Zealand vs. Argentina
First time in the finals of a Sultan Azlan Shah tournament, New Zealand (in black) played a solid game with a 1-nil score to lift the trophy. It was a tight match and there were quite a few chances for Argentina (in blue) to score but they failed to capitalise on them.
Moreover, New Zealand’s goalkeeper Kyle Pontifex, denied two penalty corners from Argentina, much to the dismay of Argentina fans, who seemed to outnumber those of New Zealand at the stadium. Kyle Pontifex was subsequently awarded Best Goalkeeper of the tournament.
Somehow, this championship match was not as well-attended as last year’s finals, between Australia and Pakistan. Those who did come, however, were duly rewarded with some great hockey.
