It’s unfortunate that I don’t have too many hockey images to share from this championship match. Night matches are always tough on my limited camera equipment.
Both Australia and Pakistan played their hearts out, knowing that they cannot provide any window of opportunity for the opponents to score. Although I have never watched hockey prior to the start of this 20th Sultan Azlan Shah Cup hockey tournament, I can see that it’s a matter of how clever a team is in forcing penalty corners and converting them into goals.
Australia and Pakistan drew level 2-2 by the end of the second half and so the match went in to extra time. It was very intense and the crowd was tremendous. In the second half of extra time, Christopher Ciriello’s golden goal helped Australia lift the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup for the sixth time since the inception of the tournament.
