21st Sultan Azlan Shah Cup 2012 Fixtures
The 21st Sultan Azlan Shah Cup 2012 will finally kick-off today, after some uncertainties at the beginning of the year. This “annual” men’s international hockey tournament is a seven-nation invitational tourney played at Ipoh’s Azlan Shah Stadium, which this year serves as a run-up to the upcoming Olympic Games in London, beginning 27th July.
For the first time, the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup would be played on the blue turf, which is similar to those used at Olympics, though there were hockey tournaments held prior to this championships, namely the 2012 Malaysia Junior Hockey League Finals in early March and 2012 Ipoh League Hockey Tournament Finals in late April.
Anyway, the teams that would be playing this year are: Britain (World No. 4), South Korea (6th), New Zealand (7th), Pakistan (8th), Argentina (9th), India (10th) and host, Malaysia (13th) – the only team that failed to qualify for this year’s Olympics.
Results are added soon after the games are played.
