2012 Sultan Azlan Shah Cup – Match 23 – 3rd & 4th Place Playoff – Great Britain vs. India
India (in blue) hadn’t really played well throughout this Azlan Shah Cup tournament. However, watching this 3rd & 4th place playoff match, it looked like the team stepped up their game one notch, as if their blend of experience and youth finally gelled.
Great Britain (in white) took a tactical risk by pulling out their goalkeeper in the closing minutes of the match, sending an extra man onto the field, hoping to force a draw. Unfortunately, that only meant open goal for India, who then put their third ball into the net easily.
While India took home the bronze medal, Great Britain didn’t go home empty handed. They were awarded the Fairplay award (team), taking home the Raja Ashman Shah Fairplay Challenge Trophy. This is the first year this trophy is awarded. It is in memory of the second prince of HRH Sultan Azlan Shah.
I thought I took a lot of photos for this match, but in fact, I spent more time watching than shooting. Yes, that was how interesting it was! Anyway, just a few shots to whet your appetite!
