Love is celebrated big-time in Kwan Yin Tong. There’s Love Lock, where couples in love are supposed to purchase a pair of small padlocks, write their names and love vows and lock them together onto a chain that runs along the side of the limestone hill. Meanwhile, these couples are supposed to throw the key away into a nearby pond, ensuring that they are forever “locked” together. Isn’t that a cute idea? Kwan Yin Tong may not be the first in the world to practise the locking of love vows but it could possibly be the first in Malaysia. And during Chap Goh Meh, lovers can declare their “love” by writing on tiny heart-shaped pieces of paper and hang them up across the courtyard like how one hangs laundry out to dry in full public view. Hehehe

What about those who are still unattached? Worry not. Just pay RM3 and write your name and phone number on a Mandarin orange and release it into the “river”. Hopefully, someone charming would get hold of it and call…. haih… life is no fairy tale.
