Bringing together fans of Liverpool, near and far, was the launch of a book on the football club, titled Shanks, Yanks and Jurgen, at the Royal Selangor Club in Kuala Lumpur on Friday, 16th August.
Authored by KL-based British sportswriter-cum-BFM pundit, Bob Holmes, the book already has football fans everywhere, particularly Liverpool supporters, eagerly turning pages.
Shanks, Yanks and Jurgen, about the men behind Liverpool’s rise, slip and rise again, includes a uniquely Malaysian angle, with heart-rending tales by local Liverpool fans as they followed the ups and downs of their beloved Reds.
Another untold story – at least for Malaysian fans – is how the modern club was built from being ‘a shambles’ to ‘European royalty’ by its immortal manager, Bill Shankly. There is also a comparison with current boss, Jurgen Klopp, whom Holmes claims is the nearest thing to Shanks that Liverpool have had since the great man passed on.
Looks like Liverpool are not just a ‘must-watch’ team, they are one you must read about. Shanks, Yanks and Jurgen is priced at a bargain at RM35. No self-respecting football fan – let alone Kopite – can be without. It’s available at major book stores.
A book signing session is slated on at the Thirsty Bar in Three-two Square, Petaling Jaya this coming Saturday night, 24th Aug, before Liverpool-Arsenal game at 12.30am Sunday.
Another signing will be at Litbooks in Tropicana Avenue at 8pm on 5th September and Kinokuniya in KLCC at 2pm on Sunday, 29th September, so get your book ready.
