A Bit of This, A Bit of That Too Charity Concert

It was an orchestral musical extravaganza yesterday afternoon, here in Ipoh when the Kinta Valley Wind Orchestra (KVWO) collaborated with the klpac Symphonic Band to bring Ipohites a rare treat of music, considering that the last time these two orchestras joined forces was nine long years ago … it was called, ‘A Bit of This, A Bit of That’.

Co-organised by the Ave Maria Convent Alumni Association, the charity concert, which was held at the school’s Dewan Dato Chin Peck Soo (hall), saw proceeds from ticket sales channelled to Persatuan Lighthouse Hope Ipoh, a not-for-profit organisation established in 2006 that uplifts the downtrodden community through SOUP KITCHEN and other relevant programmes.

During the concert, guest-of-honour YB Howard Lee How Chuan, Ipoh Timur Member of Parliament, donated RM5000 from his office to the cause. Accompanying YB Howard was YB Goh See Hua, State Assemblyperson for Pasir Pinji, along with YB Steven Tiw, State Assemblyperson for Tronoh.

Next on stage came the klpac Symphonic Band, under the baton of Cheryl Mah to offer a mixed genre of music. First was Solas Ane by Samuel Hazo, then Kiss Me Kate by Cole Porter, arranged by John Moss, and wrapping up the first session of the concert was the J-pop AKB48, arranged by Masamicz Amano.

Saving the best for last, came the combined orchestras, playing March of the Belgian Paratroopers by Pierre Leemans, then the final piece, Kimi no Na wa (Your Name) by Yojiro Noda.

It wasn’t enough for the audience, though, who called for an encore. The request was granted and Aaron Chin including the orchestra performed an upbeat number to everyone’s delight. View the full photo album of A Bit of This, A Bit of That Too on our official Facebook Page by clicking HERE.
