Atulya Bharat: A Spectacular Celebration of India’s Cultural Heritage
The rhythmic beats of tradition and the fluidity of contemporary expression came together in a breathtaking spectacle at Atulya Bharat, an extraordinary festival organised by the Greentown Indian Cultural Society (GICS).

Held in conjunction with India’s Republic Day, this celebration offered a mesmerising fusion of dance and martial arts, embodying the richness and vibrancy of Indian culture.
A Milestone for Greentown Indian Cultural Society (GICS), Ipoh
Marking its 73rd event, GICS continues to be a pillar of cultural appreciation and artistic expression in Malaysia.
As the organisation approaches its 21st anniversary in 2025, its vision remains steadfast: to bring 100 enriching events to life by its 25th anniversary in 2029.
Atulya Bharat exemplified this commitment, bridging heritage and modernity while strengthening cultural ties across borders.
A Spellbinding Showcase of Indian Dance
The evening unfolded in a dazzling display of movement and artistry, led by a 10-member ensemble from Tapasaya Foundation owned by the renowned Shri Ajay Kumar from New Delhi, India.

Their first performance, an electrifying 45-minute sequence, was a non-stop celebration of India’s cultural diversity. It encompassed a powerful blend of styles, beginning with an evocative introduction, followed by the commanding presence of Shiv Dance, elegance of Light Kathak, and striking athleticism of Martial Arts.

The production wove through dynamic energy of Folk Dance, the vibrant synchrony of Boys Light, and the captivating expressiveness of Solo Kathak, before flowing into the swirling splendour of Ghumar and the refined grace of Kanya Kathak. The performance culminated in a rousing tribute to unity, blending physical discipline of Yoga with its emotional depth of contemporary dance.

Vande Mataram: A Tribute to National Pride
The second presentation, Vande Mataram, was a deeply moving 15-minute tribute to national pride. Featuring a stirring mix of Chhau plus contemporary dance, this performance resonated with the spirit of patriotism, heightened by the participation of dancers from Kumpulan Selendang Perak, who had learnt the steps in just two hours earlier in the day.

Together, they created an unforgettable expression of shared cultural identity, reinforcing the bonds between India and Malaysia.

A Gathering of Esteemed Dignitaries
Adding to the grandeur of the occasion was the presence of esteemed guests, whose attendance underscored the event’s cultural significance.

His Royal Highness Raja DiHilir Perak Darul Ridzuan, Raja Iskandar Dzulkarnain Ibni Almarhum Sultan Idris A’fifullah Shah, graced the celebration, alongside other distinguished guests including Her Excellency Ms Subhashini Narayanan, India’s Deputy High Commissioner, as well as His Excellency Mr Mohamed Ismail Mohamed Rizvi and Mrs Uthumankandu Irfana Rizvi (Sri Lanka’s Deputy High Commissioner and his wife).

Mrs Vijayalakshmy Sunderrajan, Director of the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Indian Cultural Centre (NSCBICC) in Kuala Lumpur, was also in attendance, along with YB Sivanesan Achalingam, EXCO for Human Resources, Health, National Unity and Indian Community Affairs; YB Kesavan Subramaniam, Member of Parliament for Sungai Siput, and YB Thulsi Thivani Manogaran, ADUN Buntong, representing YB Loh Sze Yee.
