Andaman Group Children’s Lantern-Making Contest

It was a fun-filled afternoon at Andaman Group’s Upper East @ Tiger Lane Sales Gallery when thirty children took part in a friendly lantern-making contest. It was made all the more meaningful because ten children from Anning Orphanage were invited to join in the activity as well.

Assisted by parents, guardians and siblings, the children (below 12 years of age), in the time frame of an hour, displayed their creativity and talent through the making of the lanterns.

The lanterns were then judged by Andaman Group Managing Director Dato’ Sri Dr Vincent Tiew, celebrity Jack Lim (林德荣) and one of the sponsors, Dato’ Simon Leow of Fortunato Coffee. 40% of the score was awarded for creativity, 30% for neatness and another 30% for aesthetics.

This children’s lantern-making contest was one of the highlights of Andaman Group’s four-day carnival in conjunction with Mid-Autumn Festival, which fell on 15th September this year.

Eventually, Wong Hui Ying went home the winner, taking with her RM300 cash. In second place was Cristie Chong Xi Shann with RM200 and third place, Woo Mei Shan who won RM100 worth of AEON shopping vouchers. The good news was that all participants received prizes for their effort.

This children’s lantern-making contest was one of the events of the Mid-Auturm Festival Carnival. Throughout the four days, from 15th September, there were plenty of games and activities as well as complimentary food and drinks to go around. Most importantly, there ware mooncakes for all visitors.

what a nice event. It is interesting and enjoyable.
I think its there aren’t enough of these community building events, especially in KL. I remember as a child being so much more involved in my community where we would play with our neighbours. These are changing times, but great to know that these are still done throughout the country.
