All Set For a Non-Traditional Christmas Feast of Wings, Burgers & Flavours at Wing Zone Malaysia
I was alerted that Christmas is less than two weeks away. It totally slipped my mind considering how time passes by in the blink of an eye. We are hosting Christmas this year among the extended family because the holidays are an awesome excuse for them to swing by Ipoh not only to escape from the hustle and bustle of the concrete jungle but it is also another opportunity to ambush the delicious Ipoh food. So, yeah!
Despite the mid-week workload, we went around the Greentown area looking for a new Halal-certified eatery and spotted Wing Zone, a cook-to-order concept casual dining restaurant that’s known for its American Buffalo Wings (fried chicken wings lah) that we had dined in previously but somehow forgotten to revisit post-MCO [COVID-19 Movement Control Order]. However, we do recall that it’s a Halal restaurant, so that’s one of the requirements ticked off our list, to suit our “Malaysian family”.
Without further ado, we had our lunch there as we were famished by then, also to reassess the eatery to ensure that the taste and standard of food are still as yummy as we can remember. Have a look at what we ordered.
Supreme grilled chicken sandwich served with premium wedge fries. Our flavour was Liquid Gold, which is a full-flavoured version of traditional honey mustard.
Supreme chicken tender sandwich with premium wedge fries on the side. The Louisiana Smoked flavour, rated two on the Heat Index, is a smokey BBQ flavour that’s enhanced with savoury spices and a hint of citrus.
A pair of drumsticks with premium wedge fries and garden vegetables on the side. We had Honey Q flavour to go with this, which is sweet honey and smokey BBQ to evoke that Great Southern flavour.
Colossal 10oz Chicken Sandwich (or burger if you prefer) and a serving of premium wedge fries. The popular Sweet Samurai flavour we chose is an Asian sauce blend of soy, honey, ginger and teriyaki. We were told that this burger is a pretty recent addition to the menu. Look at the patty, it’s just a compact slab of chicken!
And of course, when dining in a famous buffalo wings restaurant, we just needed to get a platter as well. Here’s the 7 pieces Original Wings with premium wedge fries on the side and a bed of fresh vegetables with the chef’s recommendation of Cool Ranch dip, a savoury blend of dry rub ranch flavours.
All the above-mentioned are actually combo meals [or sets] that come with a complimentary 16oz refreshing soda with unlimited free refills… choice of Coca-Cola, Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, Sprite, Heaven and Earth, and Minute Maid Orange. Of course, should you fancy some other drink to wash your meal down with, you can pick something else from the beverage menu, paying for it separately, just like what we did.
Since our previous visit, we are happy to note that Wing Zone has an upgraded dessert selection, with Häagen-Dazs ice-cream stick bar and mini cup at RM10 each only. No matter which flavour you choose for your mains, it’s always wonderful to wrap up on a sweet note.
If you are unfamiliar with Wing Zone, this is an American cook-to-order concept casual dining restaurant established in Gainesville, Florida in 1993. Currently, there are three outlets in Malaysia. All three are located in Perak, with two of them in Ipoh [Greentown and Meru] while the third is in the university township of Kampar. If you are used to Wing Zone from living in America, you will be glad to know that all your favourite award-winning flavours are imported and readily available here in Malaysia.
Additionally, there is another range of flavours that is tweaked especially for Malaysian palates. There are close to 20 different flavours. Technically, with the many options of Buffalo Wings, Chicken Tenders and other favourite entrees, when matched with the varied flavours, you can patronise Wing Zone tens of times and not get bored. Do take note of the Heat Index, from non-spicy flavours to those that “burn with pleasure” as indicated by four chilli icons.
Oh, during our visit, we also discovered that anyone who celebrates his or her birthday at Wing Zone enjoys a 50% discount on a single combo meal. This is an ongoing special offer for dine-in only. Kindly flash your MyKad on your birthday month as proof, to redeem your meal.
As the title of this post suggested, our search for a suitable restaurant to celebrate this coming Christmas ended here at Wing Zone. Phew… no turkey, no sweat. There are plenty of flavours, and that’s what matters more!
