Alice In Wonderland
City Ballet’s biennial school production, in conjunction with the school’s 30th anniversary, with cooperation from service organisation Lions Club of Ipoh Evergreen, managed to raise a substantial amount for Make-A-Wish Malaysia.
The school, which holds a major stage production every two years, incorporates fund-raising for a charitable body, where Make-A-Wish Malaysia is the beneficiary this time.
This Alice In Wonderland production, which ran for three shows over the weekend, also saw three items autographed by international sporting celebrities being put up for auction on gala night.
At the end of the nail-biting session, Dato’ Thong Fah Chong won a framed golf shirt autographed by Japanese golfer Shingo Katayama for RM1000.
Mr. Nicky Chen won a framed polo shirt autographed by 7-time world squash champion Datuk Nicol Ann David for RM5000 and Dato’ Wenddi Anne Chong won a framed cap autographed by highest grossing Asian golfer Thongchai Jaidee for RM2400.
In addition, Datuk Ling Hee Leong pledged RM2000, while Dato’ Lim Si Boon pledged RM5000 over the phone. Meanwhile, Sunway’s Lost World of Tambun pledged their venue to be used to fulfil children’s wishes.
Proceeds from the sale of the production’s programme book, Alice In Wonderland story book, and Luke Teoh’s Awakenings of the Heart, donated and autographed by the author himself, also went to Make-A-Wish Malaysia.
The organisation, which is the 35th affiliate of Make-A-Wish Foundation International, was established in Malaysia in 2010. This was the first time a fundraising effort was conducted outside of Kuala Lumpur.
Make-A-Wish grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions, with the aim of giving them a little cheer and hope.
Funds raised from this charity production will be used on children in Perak and so far, one child has been identified. Children who are aged between 3 to 18 and medically certified by a doctor can be referred to Make-A-Wish Malaysia.
