9th Asia Cup Men’s Hockey Tournament 2013: Pakistan vs. Korea
It was a crucial match for Pakistan, where this tournament was their last chance to qualify for the World Cup at The Hague in the Netherlands next year.
Unfortunately, by losing to Korea 1 – 2, Pakistan will, for the first time in 42 years, fail to qualify for the World Cup, a tournament that they conceived, with trophy designed by the Pakistan Army and donated by the nation.
Having won the World Cup for a record four times, since it was founded in 1971 and held every four years, I can imagine the heartbreak of its nation with overwhelming hockey fans.
Korea’s win over Pakistan means that Malaysia have now qualified for the World Cup, alongside Korea and India.
Meanwhile, Pakistan coach will have a tough time reassembling his team to play against Malaysia for the bronze medal.
