After a hiatus of one month to revamp the company’s business model and to reschedule their flights to meet the needs of the market, the first flight of YOU Wings Airways flew from Medan, Indonesia to Ipoh, Malaysia to coincide with the long Hari Raya Aidilfitri break.
The management and staff of the company were at the Sultan Azlan Shah Airport in Ipoh to greet the passengers upon landing, bringing to them a surprise Hari Raya festive cheer. Guest-of-honour was Perak Tourism Association Chairman Hj Mohd Odzman Abdul Kadir.
Each passenger was handed a specially-packed souvenir (ole-ole in Indonesian) bag which contained items and food stuff that are synonymous with Ipoh, such as sachets of Ipoh white coffee and heong paeng (a type of biscuits).
As a local who has been keeping a close watch on the progress of direct flights from Ipoh’s airport, I was touched by the flurry of activity at the airport yesterday. The airport personnel were kept busy ensuring that all the passengers enjoyed an incident-free flight to their respective destinations.
I hope that this level of busyness can be sustained, for the benefit of the business community here in Ipoh.
