Impiana Hotel Ipoh hosted a welcome dinner for officials and players of the 23rd edition of Sultan Azlan Shah Cup 2014 with a scrumptious BBQ dinner by the hotel’s poolside.
Some players had to attend a practice session at the stadium and joined in the dinner later.
As guests enjoyed a wide spread of food, they were entertained by Simson Chinese Orchestra, an aboriginal dance performance and in-house band Extreme Soul.
Early in the day, a press conference was held at the bistro of the hotel, where officials, coaches and team managers fielded questions from media representatives.
Target for Malaysia is to reach the finals. However, as Australia is looking at this tournament as preparation for the World Cup this May in the Netherlands, will it be a repeat of last year’s finals where Australia triumphed Malaysia to lift the trophy?
Meanwhile, Canada will be featured in this year’s tournament again since playing here in 2008. Obviously, they are ready to show what their game play is like.
China has the youngest team – the average age of players is 22, whereas the youngest player is only 18 years old.
Although many skeptics claimed that the Azlan Shah Cup has lost its lustre this year due to the withdrawal of India and Pakistan, of the six teams that are playing at this year’s Azlan Shah Cup, four will feature in the upcoming World Cup. They are Australia, South Korea, South Africa and Malaysia.
