  1. Excellent write up – Emily

You could also consider including The Enlightened Heart Tibetan Temple, Tambun & Eco Park, Taman Sri Botani to your list…

  2. Thanks for your suggestions. Quite overwhelmed with the many things to do in Ipoh for free. Took me one full day just writing this post, not inclusive of the time spent visiting these places for photos and GPS Coordinates!

  3. WoW so many places of interest to visit in Ipoh and free.

Now know where to take my outsstation friends beside all the makan, makan……haha

Thanks Emily, we need more Ipohian like U. Keep it up

  4. Good writeup Emily. I have an appreciation for Ipoh’s history, the people, the diversity in religion beliefs, places of worship and the beautiful natural surroundings. However, I draw the line at visiting libraries and mental hospitals on my vacations !! That said, the grounds and vast open space of the Bahagia Ulu Kinta Hospital is wonderful.

  5. Hi Ritchie!

It’s not everywhere in Malaysia one gets to visit a mental hospital. There are only two – the second, smaller one is in Tampoi, Johor.

So, it is an attraction, though may not be everyone’s preference.

    😀

  6. Thank you Emily, I am fm Perak but lost touch after many years of piling in KL. I’m planning a trip down memory lane with friends and yr info will make our trip interesting.

  7. Thank you very much for this informations! I’m from Europe and I’m visiting some kinsman here in Ipoh for a few months. I started to feel very bored, because they didn’t have much time for me and I have to plan the days by myself. I was looking for something to do and now I’ve found. Thank you very much.

  8. hi,
you should add waterfall at ulu chepor.

try to climb at the top of ulu chepor..

boleh mandi manda di atas sana..

  9. I’ve seen ur post about recreational places and places to be visited around ipoh and some other places. I have a kind request for u to upload indian places to be visited as mostly the places were based on malay and chinese. Forget about indian Muslims places that is totally islamic. We r in multiracial country, that hv to acknowledge every part of ethnicity. GOD wont punish if you post article and interesting places to be visited pertaining to indian society like big temples, indian food restraunt and so on. I hope u will consider my request and we must stop against discrimination.

  10. Hi Rajan,

First of all, thank you very much for your comment.

Perhaps you didn’t follow my blog as closely as you should, as I have written numerous posts on Indian culture and religion, places of interest and food over the years.

The following are just some of them, for your reading pleasure.

    Bar.Racuda Restaurant & Bar, Ipoh
“Spices of India” Indian Buffet Lunch
Thaipusam Night Bazaar @ Little India, Ipoh
    Ipoh’s Little India
Sri Subramaniar Temple Gunung Cheroh, Ipoh

Having said this, I am always open to suggestions to increase this list on places of attractions in Ipoh that are free-of-charge to visit, as well as my food list Ipoh’s MUST Eat.

If you have friends who run food and beverage outlets, do inform them of my blog as an avenue for them to promote their menu. They may contact me through my blog, as you did.

Once again, thank you very much for your feedback and I hope to hear from you again.

  11. Definitely have to check this out the next time I’m in Ipoh! My dad is from Teluk Intan which is quite near. Haven’t had the time to venture around Ipoh much. 🙁

  12. Dear,

is the public transportation is good in Ipoh?
Or do we need to rent a car? Anyone know about the price for rent a car? can Indian driving licence holders drive a car in Ipoh?

  13. Hi Thouseef,

No, public transport in Ipoh is not that reliable. However, you can use Uber around town.

    See this post: http://www.emily2u.com/uber-now-in-ipoh/

As for car rental in Ipoh, I know of this company: http://www.asiacarrental.com.my/

I have to clarify that I have not used their service before so I don’t know how good they are.

I am not sure if Indian driving licence is valid in Ipoh (or Malaysia in general). It would be better if you could convert it to an international licence.
