With the participation of drummers and percussionists from ten countries, this was an international festival, a rare treat for us Ipoh folks. The festival wouldn’t be successful without the collaboration of Perak Tourism, Ministry of Tourism Malaysia, Tourism Malaysia, Ministry of Information, Communication and Culture Malaysia and Ipoh City Council. During the show at Dataran MBI where I was, I would say there were easily 5,000 people, despite a heavy downpour in the beginning. Luckily, it was fine weather soon after and we could continue to enjoy the performances. Despite the name of the festival, it wasn’t an all-drum affair because most of them were multi-instrument groups, some included dancing and singing, even Capoeira, in their performances! Very diverse, very entertaining, nonetheless.
