Quiz Night @ Healy Mac’s Ipoh

Running a blog primarily on Ipoh events and happenings, besides travel, I get numerous messages from readers wondering how to spend their time in Ipoh. Well, weekends are usually packed but if you think that Monday night is the start of a week of nightly hibernation at home, you can’t be more wrong.

For a little fun with friends and a healthy session of brain exercise, head over to Healy Mac’s Irish Bar in Greentown Business Centre on Monday nights for Quiz Night with Bryan. For your information, there is no live band on Monday nights.

The quiz session begins anytime from 9pm. All are welcome to participate, and no fee is imposed. Obviously, no cheating via smart devices!! Maximum number of participants per table is 6 – 7. Last Monday when I was there, nine teams participated in the quiz.

There are five rounds and each round has ten questions. Teams are required to provide written answers on a sheet of paper which are then submitted to Bryan to be marked after each round.

The team with the highest score in each round, where one point is awarded for each correct answer, will win a bucket of Hoegaarden or Corona. Teams that have won one round and awarded the bucket prize cannot win again, but scores will continue to accumulate for the grand prize, which is a bottle of Russian Shot Vodka, to the overall winning team.

The first round is on general knowledge, followed by music and sports in rounds two and three. Round 4 is rather tricky as it is a speed round where questions are not repeated. When I was there, for each question, a year and place of birth were given and participants had to name the famous person that was born. Not easy, but when the answers were revealed after the answer sheets have been marked, we wondered why we didn’t think of the answers earlier.

Round 5 was once again on general knowledge. The overall winner for last Monday was Mini Kapoor, with a score of 36 out of a possible 50. I understand that they try their luck every Monday night, and have been rather successful. That’s great bonding time too, right?
