Perak Menteri Besar Chinese New Year Open House 2013
The Year of the Snake Chinese New Year Open House hosted by Perak Menteri Besar (Chief Minister) and his spouse was a standard affair. It was supposed to be just a small do, because the state-level CNY Open House will only be held on 16th Feb, at SMK Sultan Idris Shah field, Gopeng. However, guests and well-wishers started arriving two hours before the scheduled hour of 3pm.
Similar to the 2011 Chinese New Year Open House Celebration, Ipoh-born superstar Dato’ Seri Michelle Yeoh also graced this year’s open house with her family members. Michelle’s fans took the opportunity to take photos with her, while the press tried to dig for information on her forthcoming marriage to Dato’ Seri Jean Todt, President of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA).
Besides the usual 1 Malaysia cultural performances, and the obligatory speech by the Menteri Besar, his seven adopted children of Chinese descent received red packets of cash and hampers. Festive cheer was also spread to children 12 years of age and below. Each received a red packet (ang pow) too.
One unique aspect of open houses in Malaysia is its multi-cultural flavour, attended by people from all walks of lives, irrespective of race or religion; including foreigners.
A Chinese New Year celebration isn’t festive enough without the appearance of the God of Prosperity. This one had “two”, which means, “Double the happiness, double the prosperity!” Gods of Prosperity (Choy Sun) were provided by Au Young Events.
