This Nature Interpretation Centre (sometimes referred to as Nature Interpretive Centre) or NIC in short, is a three-storey building within Taman Wetland Putrajaya. It is “home” to everything you need to know about wetlands. Everything that can be found at this wetlands park could be found in NIC.
Visitors get to learn about wetlands in the most interactive way, from watching video clips on large screens to reading information boards all around the exhibition gallery, which is on the ground floor.
Did you know that this Putrajaya Wetland is the largest man-made wetland in Malaysia? It comprises of 138 hectares of Wetland Park and 197 hectares of wetland area. Similar to natural wetland that is like the planet’s kidney, this man-made one also serves as Putrajaya’s “kidney”. It ensures the suitability of the waters of Putrajaya Lake to be used by humans for recreational activities.
On the Lower Ground floor of NIC is the auditorium, with a 240-degree screen. We were shown a video on the important roles of mangrove trees and the consequences of tsunami without this protective barrier of mangrove trees grown along the shore.
