Mock Cheque Presentation: 2nd Ipoh International Waiters’ Race
A mock cheque presentation ceremony for the 2nd Ipoh International Waiters’ Race was held this morning at Tower Regency Hotel, Ipoh, the official hotel of the event.
The cash sponsorship, RM30,000 from the Perak State Government through Perak Tourism, RM20,000 from the Ministry of Tourism and Culture and RM5000 from the Malaysian Association of Hotels, was to boost up the organising of the event.
Prior to the race on May 25, there will be a cleanliness awareness campaign, 1 Malaysia Green, 1 Malaysia Clean (1MG1MC) along the heritage trail of Ipoh Old Town, the route of this waiters’ race. This is to promote the government’s volunteerism programme and to support its on-going war against cleanliness, beginning with tourism products.
The event is also held to celebrate the 26th anniversary of Ipoh City Day, as well as in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2014, where a year of exciting events and colourful celebrations has been planned throughout the country.
While the first edition of Ipoh International Waiters’ Race last year was held at the DR Park, this year’s is along the Ipoh heritage trail to promote the area as a major tourism attraction in the city. A total of 250 entrants, 60 of them foreigners, are slated to participate in this 1.2km race.
A significant event for Perak, a race like this definitely boosts the commitment and solidarity of those in the service sector, an important aspect of tourism.
