Lorong Seni @ Lorong Panglima ~ New Tourism Product in Ipoh
The launch of Lorong Seni @ Lorong Panglima this morning heralded a fresh façade for Ipoh City as an arts hub.
A new project by the Ipoh City Council, this arts alley is located beside and behind Ipoh OCBC Bank in Old Town, marked by a steel wall sculpture designed and installed by the team from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Seri Iskandar.
Tilted “Lestari Alami”, this is the first of many sculptures to be installed in the vicinity over a period of time by the same UiTM arts faculty, as strategic partners.
Launched by Yang Berhormat Dato’ Nolee Ashilin Binti Mohammed Radzi in her position as the State Tourism Committee Chairperson alongside Ipoh City Mayor YBhg. Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin, this new Ipoh Old Town attraction is an extension to the popular Ipoh Heritage Walking Trail.
Besides art sculptures, vendors are present to showcase their craft products and services as well as busking to liven up the atmosphere every Saturday from 8am until 1pm.
Further good news for Perakians at large is the renovation plan to transform Ipoh Town Hall into a Philharmonic auditorium matching the standard of Istana Budaya in Kuala Lumpur, while the old General Post Office at the back portion of the building will be repaired and converted into a Digital Art Gallery. Work begins in August 2022 and is expected to complete within 24 months.
This initiative is part of the blueprint by Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA) in collaboration with the Ipoh City Council, ahead of Visit Perak Year 2025.
