At the same event, a prize presentation to recent video and photo contests was also held. The theme of the contests was, of course, breast cancer awareness. The first prize winner of the short video contest, Mr. Lay Chia Hong, walked away with RM800 cash while the first prize winner of the dSLR contest, En. Muhammad Nur Syafiq Norman, won RM700.
Other activities lined up were free health screening, blood pressure checking, body fat assessment, dietary counselling and clinical breast examination. Breast cancer is the number one cancer for women in Malaysia and makes up of 30% of all new reported cancer cases in the country. Although breast cancer is a “female cancer”, it also affects a small number of men. As with other cancers that afflict us, early detection is the key.
