Kong Heng Square Artisan Market, Ipoh Old Town

It’s been a while since I dropped by Ipoh Old Town. I mean to say that to go around on foot to look see, look see.

I made my way there over the weekend just to check out what’s new and boy, what a surprise! The Kong Heng Square area is now heavily commercialised, with many booths selling all sorts of knick knacks. It’s a wee bit better than Concubine Lane but not much. I honestly miss those days of weekend flea markets and craft bazaars.

My crafter friends are still holding their own amidst the commercialism. They, occupying Shoplots A, B & C of Kong Heng Square, have rebranded themselves to be “Kong Heng Square Artisan Market”.

As you can tell, Kong Heng Square Artisan Market is only made up of three lots. Why, when there are so many other kiosks and booths? Well, these three lots (Ipoh Craftnerds, The Living Art and AM Zakka Store) carry genuine, hand-crafted items. So, if you are into custom-made stuff, this is the place to go in Ipoh Old Town for your fix.

Another attraction in the area is a feature called “Talking Trees”. Obviously, these trees don’t talk but the folk at Kong Heng Square Artisan Market have combined their resources to decorate and dangle motivational quotes on the trees around the area. Get motivated, be inspired, when you visit Kong Heng Square Artisan Market.

  1. I guess I would be a regular to this market. I like discover new crafters and an opportunity to meet the crafters.

  2. What a great market to visit. those crafts are indeed interesting. and it looks they have good home decorations.

  3. Love flea markets. Tak sangka banyak tempat menarik di Ipoh. I jarang-jarang pergi ke Ipoh. Maybe 1 day kena juga pergi ke sana untuk terokai tempat menarik
