Ipoh Tourism Teh Tarik Session 2.0
Tourism product owners, tourism players, and stakeholders from Ipoh and its neighbouring towns met up for the second monthly Ipoh Tourism Teh Tarik Session.
Tourism Teh Tarik Sessions is not a new initiative. However, following the pandemic, tourism player Encik Hisyamudin Yusof has taken it upon himself to organise similar get-togethers, especially now that we are closer to Visit Perak Year 2024. While these sessions were hosted twice-yearly previously, they are now on a monthly basis albeit in smaller groups.
Among the attendees were PTA President Datuk Hj. Mohd. Odzman and Honorary Secretary Puan Rohaida, along with PTA elected members Dato’ Zuhuri Ahmad, Mr SA Peter, Encik Hisyamudin Yusof, and Encik Hisam Yusof.
Also present were representatives from Cycledios and Persatuan Seni Permata Kinta Perak (SEMARAK) alongside Nature Tour Coordinator Encik Syed Kamalrul, including Lenggong Heritage Guide Puan Noorhashimah. Obviously, Opah Merry Cafe owner, who also runs the picturesque Tingkat Valley, was on hand as the gracious host.
One of the upcoming events is the 3-day drums festival-cum-carnival at Taman D.R Seenivasagam which will wrap up 2023 and welcome 2024, earmarked as Visit Perak Year.
Another event discussed was the plans for Taiping Heritage Town, which will celebrate its 150th anniversary next year. Indeed, 2024 will be a very busy year for tourism players. While many may think that Taiping refers to the town proper, “Taiping” in this context, encompasses Batu Kurau on the northeast, Padang Rengas on the southeast, and Kuala Sepetang on the west.
Dato’ Zuhuri Ahmad, who is the Chairman of Taiping Tourist Association, believes that besides the activities that are being planned by Taiping Member of Parliament Office, there is still room for various parties to spur up Taiping. A walking trail or cycling tour comes to mind.
Also in the works is the 500th anniversary celebration of the Perak Sultanate in 2028. Although five years away, this is a significant occasion that involves royalties, thus much planning has to be done to adhere to the strict protocols.
Ask not what the government or politicians can do for us. As caring citizens, let’s join hands to get the ball rolling. Those who are unable to spare the time, resources, or know-how, just support the events by talking about it among your circle of friends and family, sharing the information on your social media and with your presence on event day!
