Ipoh Car-Free Day @ New Location in Greentown
The final edition of Ipoh Car-Free Day in 2019 drew a crowd of 2,000, much smaller than previous installments, perhaps due to the short notice for relocation.
This 47th edition since the programme started off on 18th October, 2015 is on a trial run at Greentown, Ipoh, to allow the Ipoh City Council to study traffic flow impact and to identify solutions for issues that may arise for local residents and businesses.
In any case, the City Council will continue to host Ipoh Car-Free Day programmes in order to realise the aspiration of Ipoh achieving its status as a low carbon city.
According to Dr Richard Ng from Ipoh City Watch, one of the active participants of Ipoh Car-Free Day since its inaugural edition, this new location is more conducive and more accessible, not only for locals, but also foreign visitors. He also expressed hope that hoteliers in the city will assist to promote the programme to their guests. Putting it on the annual calendar of events for Perak would also create greater awareness.
The main theme for the aforementioned event was Christmas and New Year, a season to reflect on our personal achievements and failures in the past months, and to recharge to take on a brand New Year come 2020.
