1st Ipoh Car-Free Day Event for 2019
Ipohites and residents from neighbouring towns participated in Ipoh Car-Free Day on Sunday, the 37th edition in the series since it was first introduced in October 2015.
Hosted by Ipoh City Council, joining hands to make it a success were government agencies and non-governmental organisations. The venue was along Jalan Raja Dihilir, Ipoh.
This first event of the year was kicked off by Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu, who was accompanied by his wife, Datin Seri Dr. Nomee Ashikin Mohammed Radzi. He flagged off the “Say No To Smoking Fun Ride”.
Also present was Exco for Communications, Multimedia, NGOs and Cooperative Development, YB Tuan Hasnul Zulkarnain bin Abd Munaim.
According to Ipoh City Council Secretary Encik Mohd Zakuan bin Haji Zakaria, the Car-Free Day programme is held to achieve the objectives of Ipoh Sports City, Lower Carbon City and improve the Independence Index among the people by fostering environmental awareness, health, safety, history and legacy.
Among the regular booths that were set up included those from Persatuan Suri & Anggota Perkhidmatan Awam Malaysia (PUSPANITA), Jabatan Bomba dan Penyelamat Malaysia (JBPM), Polis Diraja Malaysia, Perak State Health Department, KPJ Ipoh Specialist Hospital, Malaysia Interaction Culture Association (MICA), Daybreak Association, Ipoh City Watch, Tun Razak Library and many more.
Meanwhile, there were various activities lined up for visitors, from aerobics to cycling, free health checks, archery, recycling, and petting zoo, among others.
Private companies also supported the exciting event by providing free food and drinks. Appreciation goes to generous sponsors such as McDonald’s, 100 Plus, Nestle / Milo and Power Root / Ali Cafe.
