I spied this banner that shouts Ikan Tilapia at RM10.80 (3 preparations) at Restoran CK Keong when shopping at the Monday night market in Taman Ipoh Jaya. Only available from Mondays to Fridays, it says, in conjunction with the restaurant’s 10th anniversary celebration.
And so, we made out merry way there yesterday, Monday, for lunch. Guess what? We were told that the fish delivery was delayed because the vehicle broke down.
Well, to believe or not, it’s up to you, but we were there for two hours, and there was no sight of the fish truck at all.
Anyway, from one fish per pax, we decided to order something else. Guess what? The waiter got my order wrongly, and even though he eventually rectified it, he made me feel as though I was being difficult just because “customer is always right”. He also failed to apologise for the error, or the delay in serving this dish, as other dishes had already gone cold.
The second dish was erroneous as well but I allowed the mistake to slide, because I just wanted to eat!
Apart from service failure, the air-conditioned CK Keong serves restaurant-quality cooking with “standard”. Also, the rice, as you know, is very important to bring out the fragrance of the main courses. CK Keong serves one of the better quality rice compared to the many similar restaurants that I have patronised thus far, without jacking up the price, averaging RM6.50 to RM8 per set only.
While the dishes were on point taste wise, they could do with a little garnishing and plating. Also, the curry chicken could do with some potato cubes. Have a look at my photos and you would agree.
Next mission, hunt for that RM10.80 Ikan Tilapia. Who’s with me?
