Gua Damai Extreme Park, Batu Caves
Gua Damai Extreme Park in Batu Caves is the place to go to whet your appetite for adventure. This extreme park, which offers rock climbing (179 routes), abseiling, jungle trekking, obstacle course, caving and camping, among other adventure outdoor activities, is also used as a training ground for mountain climbing.
As the height of Gua Damai is 96 metres, it is suitable for base jump enthusiasts, who undergo training here daily from 7.30am to 11am. Anyone is welcome to come over to watch.
Due to a tight schedule, my friends and I were only able to experience rock climbing and abseiling. Most of us are not into extreme sports, so it was definitely a challenge for us. Unlike the high rope course challenge at SkyTrex Adventure, where the biggest obstacle was actually mental, rock climbing required stamina and strength. Gua Damai may be the best climbing site in Malaysia, but I was not physically ready for it!
Abseiling, which looked a lot easier than rock climbing was not easy too. Even going to the abseiling station, we had to go through a rocky trail in the mountains. Scary, wei… but it was challenging and I am glad to say I managed to descend safely from the height of some 100 metres, albeit with bruises on both my knees! LOL
Courses offered by Gua Damai Extreme Park include basic rock climbing, Damai cave exploration, fun climbing and abseiling, just to name a few. Lunch, climbing equipment and experienced guides are provided. Contact information is provided at the end of this post.
