Grand Finale: Andaman GRAB House @ RM1

Summit Hotel USJ was abuzz with excitement on Monday, 23rd Jan, when 185 finalists of the Andaman GRAB House @ RM1 gathered that morning. Yes, after a five-month long campaign, it was time to find out who would be the lucky person to walk away with a property at ARC @ Austin Hills, Johor Bahru currently worth RM302,500, for only RM1!

The property up for grabs was a 650 sq. ft. 2-bedroom and 2-bathroom freehold serviced apartment, complete with two parking bays.

Of all the events I had covered thus far, this was one of the times that I was most excited because I personally submitted several entries during the campaign. Who wouldn’t try, when the property campaign by Andaman Group offered an opportunity for someone to own a property at just RM1?

With Wonderlist as the mobile application platform, participants were first required to download the Wonderlist app on their mobile phone, register an account with Wonderlist, and “Like” Dato’ Sri Vincent Tiew’s “larger than life” Facebook fan page. The next step saw participants enter a lucky number ranging from 1 to 99,999 in the Wonderlist app.

The campaign successfully garnered an overwhelming response of more than 10,000 entries when it closed on the last day of 2016. The campaign reached out to over 350,000 people through various social media platforms with over 150,000 shares on Facebook alone.

About ten entrants were picked from each of the five months, based on their numbers that matched the pre-determined numbers by Andaman. These participants were rewarded with an ICE watch. Additionally, they were eligible to join the grand draw.

In early January 2017, two more lucky numbers were picked which summed up the total to about 150 participants entitled to attend the finale of the campaign.

During the grand draw, every shortlisted participant had to pick a key from a designated box prior to the announcement of the Top 5 lucky participants with a unique identification on their “lucky” keys.

These Top 5 lucky participants thereafter had to use their “lucky” keys to open a replica door of their dream home. The person with the “lucky” key that matched and opened the replica door was announced as Grand Prize Winner.

He turned out to be 29-year-old Ammar Yazid from Shah Alam. Congratulations, Ammar!
