Strengthening Perak-China Tourism Ties: Gateway to Greater Collaboration

Malaysia welcomed 4.1 million tourists from Mainland China in 2024, a testament to the strong appeal of its diverse travel experiences. With the Ministry of Tourism Malaysia setting ambitious targets of 5 million Chinese visitors in 2025 and 6 million in 2026 in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2026, this collaboration between Perak and key Chinese travel markets comes at a crucial time.

Business Matching for Perak-China Tourism Industry Players

In a significant step towards fostering closer ties between Malaysia and China, the Business Matching for Perak-China Tourism Industry Players event was hosted as part of the 2025 Three-State Cross-Promotion Mega Fam Trip. This effort is a continuation of Tourism Perak’s China Sales Mission in August 2024.

Organised by Tourism Perak, in collaboration with the Malaysia Inbound Chinese Association (MICA), the event welcomed representatives from five major Chinese cities: Shenzhen, Nanjing, Chongqing, Wuhan, and Guangzhou.

With 55 esteemed Chinese travel agents that specialise in different market segments in attendance, this initiative served as a vital platform for exploring business opportunities, developing strategic partnerships, and enhancing travel experiences tailored for Chinese tourists.

Showcasing Perak’s Rich Tourism Offerings

As part of the mega-familiarisation trip, participants embarked on a journey to some of Perak’s most captivating destinations.

From the tranquil beaches of Pangkor Island to the heritage-rich streets of Ipoh, the visitors experienced a glimpse of what makes Perak a must-visit location. Kuala Kangsar, with its royal history and stunning architecture, mesmerised the delegation, while Taiping’s lush landscapes and serene ambience left a lasting impression.

With Perak’s unique blend of cultural heritage, natural beauty, and modern attractions, the state offers a well-rounded experience for travellers of all interests. Whether it’s exploring centuries-old temples, marvelling at limestone caves, or indulging in delicious local cuisine, Perak promises unforgettable adventures.

One of the key highlights of the event was the B2B session, where 30 local tourism players engaged in meaningful discussions with their Chinese counterparts. This business matching opportunity allowed both parties to exchange insights, discuss market trends, and create customised travel packages according to the needs of Chinese visitors. By aligning products with market demands, Perak is poised to attract a greater influx of Chinese tourists, contributing to Malaysia’s overall tourism growth.

Four key tourism products were showcased to highlight what Perak has to offer:

    This cross-state promotion initiative by Selangor, Perak, and Negeri Sembilan marks a strategic move in Malaysia’s tourism development. This win-win-win formula leverages the unique strengths of each state, offering travellers a seamless experience that combines cultural heritage, modern attractions, and natural wonders. By working together, these states can offer comprehensive travel packages that appeal to the Chinese market and beyond.

    With this successful business matching event plus familiarisation trip, Perak, alongside Selangor and Negeri Sembilan, is well-positioned to capture a larger share of the growing Chinese tourism market. By fostering closer collaboration, enhancing tourism offerings, besides ensuring seamless travel experiences, Perak is set to play a pivotal role in Malaysia’s goal of attracting 6 million Chinese tourists during Visit Malaysia Year 2026. Malaysia allowing Chinese citizens to enter visa-free for 30 days from 1st December 2024 until 31st December 2026 will certainly help boost the numbers.
