According to a report in The Star daily newspaper dated 2nd May 2019, the cave with the Japanese writings was believed to once house a temple, established by a Nichiren Shu priest. Nichiren Shu is a Buddhist school in Japan that was founded by Nichiren Daishonin that taught and practised the Lotus Sutra more than 750 years ago.
