A Heartfelt Reunion: Celebrating the Retirement of CPO Perak Dato’ Pahlawan Azizi Mat Aris
Yesterday’s reunion and retirement celebration party for CPO Perak Dato’ Pahlawan (Comm) Azizi Mat Aris was a touching affair, bringing together old friends, and colleagues, as well as cherished memories.
The hi-tea gathering at Dulang Coffee House (Hotel Excelsior Ipoh) served as the ideal occasion for reconnecting with former classmates from Sekolah Menengah Temenggong Kati in Kuala Kangsar, where Datuk Comm Azizi had studied from Form 1 to Form 3 (1971-1973).
Many attendees had not seen each other since leaving school, making this reunion a long-awaited opportunity to catch up, reminisce, and share stories of days gone by. The reunion was not only a celebration of Azizi’s professional accomplishments but also an opportunity to reconnect with friends who had shaped his early life.
After his time at Sek. Men. Temenggong Kati, Azizi continued his studies at Sek. Men. Bukit Mercu for Forms 4 and 5, before moving on to SMK Clifford, also in Kuala Kangsar, for two years of Form 6.
His educational journey began at Sekolah Kebangsaan Kampung Cheh, where his roots in the community were first established. These early experiences helped shape his path to a distinguished career in the police force, which began in 1987 and spanned more than three decades.
The lively atmosphere was further enhanced by a karaoke contest, where guests enthusiastically took to the stage in a friendly competition, with the best performers rewarded with hampers.
The highlight of the function was undoubtedly Azizi’s karaoke rendition of “Widuri,” a well-loved Indonesian song by Broery Marantika and Dewi Yull from the album Mengapa Harus Bertengkar.

His emotional rendition provided a fitting conclusion to a day filled with laughter and camaraderie.
The event was organised by Sub-Inspector (SI) Suhaimi, the village head of Kampung Cheh, Kuala Kangsar, and a close friend of Azizi. Suhaimi, who himself will be retiring on 27th October 2024, played a crucial role in bringing the event to life, showcasing the enduring bonds within the local community.
As Datuk Comm Azizi prepares for his official retirement on 10th November 2024, with the handover of duty scheduled for 8th November, his legacy in the police force remains highly respected.
Throughout his career, he held several key positions, including assistant director in the Bukit Aman management department and aide-de-camp to the Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
The reunion was not just a farewell to a remarkable career, but also a homecoming of sorts, returning to the friendships and memories that helped shape his life’s journey.
This gathering was a poignant reminder that while careers may come to an end, the bonds of friendship and shared experiences are everlasting, offering a joyful and fitting way to celebrate a life dedicated to both service and community.
