AGED Restaurant & Bar, SkyAvenue, Resorts World Genting

It is said that presentation of a dish is just as important as its taste. Indeed, I was won over by AGED Restaurant & Bar, merely by looking at the exquisite dishes served, even before I tasted them.

A newly established F&B brand with its first outlet at SkyAvenue, Resorts World Genting, it opened for business in November, 2017.

I had the opportunity to wine and dine at AGED on the invitation of RWG last weekend, so now you can read about the delectable food that I was entertained with.

First of all, AGED Restaurant & Bar serves Western cuisine. If AGED gives you the impression of “old”, you are spot on.

The concept of AGED is to use the basics from traditional cooking methods, added in with modern techniques to create a unique menu that is solely synonymous with the restaurant.

Believing that great pieces of meat are to be shared, the meat at AGED is not merely that but AGED well.

Our casual fine dining lunch began with Starters of Caesar Salad and Foie Gras. Caesar Salad may be common but this dish was special with Iberico Ham 24 mths and Cured Yolk.

 3. Foie Gras

On the other hand, Foi Gras is a French luxury delicacy. At AGED, its added flavours were from Apple Raisins, Choc Balsamic and Lime Jelly.

Moving on to the main courses, my friends and I began with Chicken Breast in mushroom sauce. Juicy and tender, it was topped with a slice of, oddly, specially prepared chicken skin. The dish was decorated with Honey Carrot Puree and Apricot Sauce in cubes.

 6. Pork Rack

Next up was Pork Rack, interestingly topped with lemon foam and Pineapple Salsa. Similar to the earlier dish of Chicken Breast, this was also decorated with Honey Carrot Puree, alongside Avocado.

7. Escargot

Then, it was time for the exotic Escargot. Granted, this snail dish on a bed of Risotto may not be everyone’s preference but it is a must-eat item in France.

 8. Salmon

The next dish, Salmon, was more to my taste. Seasoned with sea salt and prepared over low temperature for long hours, the meat was so tender that I almost requested for a second helping. The colours of the dish were contributed by basil and beetroot, among others.

9. Tomahawk

Last but not least of the main courses, was Tomahawk. Featuring 400g of Angus beef from Australia, obviously, it was out of bounds for me as I do not take beef, no matter how succulent and tempting it looked.

I was informed that the steak was AGED for at least 20 days to achieve this tenderness and juiciness, as well as obtaining this relish from the meat.

For dessert, we had Crème Caramel, followed by meringue-topped lemon tart and a scoop of cempedak (jackfruit) ice cream. Can you guess which was my favourite?

It’s the ice cream, no doubt about it. When it was served on a bed of cookie crumble and crushed popping candy, it was simply heavenly.

As mentioned earlier, AGED is also a bar. Head Barista Tryston demonstrated the preparation of four cocktails that he had crafted.

Named Gentlemen Black, Northern Light, Butterfly and Bluelady, these signature drinks are naturally only available at AGED. Seriously, for people who drink, these cocktails are best enjoyed 6000 feet above sea level.

For those of us who do not drink, we can always go for other beverages, such as Pomegranate Oolong Tea, Irish Coffee, Macadamia Latte and Yuri Matcha. These without question wrap up a meal at AGED just as memorably.
