Two Thumbs Up For Tea Place
Professional cooking, friendly prices and fast service – Tea Place checks all the right boxes for a café of this class.
Tea Place is not a new eatery. It opened some four or five years ago. In fact, I do pass by it when in Bercham. It’s located in an inner road, facing the main Bercham thoroughfare.
I never found a reason to enter this section of Bercham, but purposely made the turn in this time for lunch. Tea Place was packed when my family was there on Sunday. Surprisingly, service was commendable, without too long a wait, considering the crowd.
Offering value set meals at RM10.90, with main course, Soup of the Day and a drink, Tea Place also has a rather extensive à la carte of local and Western cuisine, as well as rice dishes and finger food.
Tea Place is actually popular for its range of Taiwanese-flavoured beverages and cold desserts but those would have to be sampled on another occasion.
If you yearn for hawker fare, Tea Place offers these items under its “Local Cuisine” menu. From Nasi Lemak to Fried Rice and Beehoon, these are priced at RM6.90 per plate. Takeaway has a RM1 surcharge.
The Char Kuey Teow pictured here is from that menu. Look at the two prawns generously included. Even though it’s served at an air-conditioned café, it didn’t lack “wok hei” (鑊氣).
Curry is one item that we must order by default when it is present on the menu, which was exactly what we did at Tea Place. We are delighted to note that the curry here, also from the à la carte menu, “has standard”, although not as spicy as the dish served at Order Café. If you love curry, you won’t go wrong at Tea Place.
Meanwhile, Japanese-style Fish with Rice and Lemon Chicken Rice are from the value set menu. Each set comes with Soup of the Day, which was Mushroom Soup in this case, and a drink from a choice of Lemon Tea or Teh-O.
