No. 4. Chitty Village
Chitty Village in Jalan Gajah Berang, is the Indian’s equivalent to Kampung Morten. Chitty (also Chetti) means ‘trader’ in Tamil.
Similar to Kampung Morten, Chitty Village also has been given protection as a heritage area since June 2000. Today, there are still some thirty odd Chitty families residing in this village.
Located by the entrance of the village is the Chetti Museum, which is open daily from 9am – 5pm (closed on Mondays and Tuesdays). It requires an admission fee of RM2 per adult and 50 sen per child. Artefacts, handicrafts and old photographs are exhibited in this museum.
