Sunset at Ban Pecah

On the way to Penang recently, my friends and I purposely went off-track to the famed Ban Pecah beach, to try to catch a nice view of the sunset.

As you know, it takes a lot of luck to catch nature at its best, and I’d say, we were not that lucky this time.

We were not alone, however. It surprised me to see so many families there, waiting for the “moment” too.

Ban Pecah is the Malay language for “Broken Bund”. Legend has it that the coastal land was cursed by its owner some 50 years ago, when his property was forcefully sold off by his uncle, without consent.

Since then, attempts to erect a bund wall along the coast have continued to fail.
