STG Boutique Café @ Oldtown Ipoh
The revival of Ipoh’s Old Town has certainly seen a progressive growth in dining choices.
One of the options in this area is STG Boutique Café, spotting an eye-catching English colonial concept with a touch of modernism.
Opened last September, the café, which takes up two shop fronts, including the corner lot, offers a range of mainly Western cuisine with a good selection of local specialities.
If STG sounds familiar to you, it is because this café is the second outlet of the new STG chain of food and beverage outlets, with the first one, STG Tea House Café in Chateau Garden, Ipoh. A third outlet will be coming up soon in two months’ time in Taiping’s Spritzer EcoPark.
STG stands for Sabah Tea Garden. Therefore, at this pork-free STG Boutique Café as well as STG Tea House Café, a choice of dishes infused with Sabah tea, not available anywhere else, is offered.
Still, the menu here is reviewed regularly, under the direction of Singapore-trained Chef Max and self-taught, but no less capable, barista Jim.
Both are equally passionate about their food and beverage creations, as you can see from the photos of these chef’s recommendations that I have enclosed in this post, my family’s lunch yesterday.
While enjoying your meal here, I would recommend tea to go with your food, particularly the pesticide-free Sabah tea and the organic Borneo Rainforest tea, which the café is so famous for. By the way, if something sweeter is your cup of tea, perhaps you should try a mocktail. It’s Jim’s very own invention.
STG Boutique Café serves brunch, lunch, hi-tea, dinner and even supper. On-going promotions are:
1) Afternoon Tea Promo (3pm – 6pm daily)
Only RM58++ for two or RM108++ for four
2) Lunch Promo (12pm – 2pm Mon – Fri except public holidays)
Order any main dish from the menu, add RM2++ to enjoy 1 X Soup of the Day + 1 X ice/hot lemon tea
3) Cake Promo (3pm – 6pm Mon – Fri)
Buy one pot of tea or coffee and be entitled to one slice of cake at 50% discount
The ground floor of STG Boutique Café caters to walk-in diners. It sits approximately 75 pax in total, including the private dining area.
On the first floor is the event hall. It comprises three private rooms, for 8 – 12 pax per room. There is a minimum spend of RM500 for the utilisation of these private rooms.
And then there is the grand hall which can accommodate up to 80 pax. The adjacent Red Lodge has a capacity of 50 pax.
With a cosy ambience, STG TBoutique Café makes a wise choice for corporate or private functions, from company dinners to seminars, birthday parties, wedding receptions, and even meetings. Standard facilities are provided, namely a projector, wireless microphone, sound system and also stationery.
