Rediscovering the Favourite Flavours of Wing Zone Malaysia in Meru Raya, Ipoh

We were looking for a place to eat, tired after the long bus trip from Kuala Lumpur, and way past our meal time! Didn’t want to go far, yet didn’t fancy the overly spicy fares that are available near Terminal Meru Raya where we disembarked. Luckily, we recalled the newly opened Wing Zone at Meru Raya, so we hunted down the Petronas fuel station that the restaurant is attached to. Just nice to refuel both the car and the tummy. Just FYI, Wing Zone Malaysia is Halal-certified, so they make ideal dining options for Muslims.

Without hesitation, ordered our best-of-the-best item on the menu: Colossal 10oz Chicken Sandwich, with premium wedge fries on the side. This round, we opted for Honey Q flavour. This is a blend of sweet honey plus smoky BBQ for a Great Southern flavour, similar to the one available at Wing Zone restaurants in the United States.

If you are unaware, the advantage of dining at Wing Zone is the availability of almost twenty different flavours. Thus, you can dine here as many times and not be bored. By the way, there are three Wing Zone Malaysia restaurants: Greentown and Meru Raya both located in Ipoh, and Kampar, which is the first Malaysian outlet.

Additionally, with flavours indicated by a heat index from zero to four chilli icons, you can keep your sweat glands under control depending on your personal tolerance level.

Next, we ordered the Supreme Grilled Chicken Sandwich, which came with a thick slab of chicken between two sides of the burger bread. This entree combo was served with premium wedge fries. We cranked up our spice level by selecting the 2-chilli icons Tokyo Dragon, which is a combination of hot honey plus classic Teriyaki for an experience of ginger, soy and heat.

100% plant-based Green Marvel Burger Combo with Chipotle BBQ flavour

For something different, we opted for the Green Marvel Burger Combo, a 100% plant-based burger that’s suitable for vegans, vegetarians and obviously, those following a strictly plant-based diet. Also came with a generous portion of premium wedge fries. For this option, we were recommended the Chipotle BBQ flavour, a new inclusion. Well, this is a classic BBQ flavour with a polite dose of spark. Even though Green Marvel Burger Combo is plant-based, eating it, one can’t notice that it’s not beef as it appeared to be. Moreover, it’s tasteful that people who reject vegetables from their diet would not be any wiser.

To be shared among us was the “basket” of 6 pieces of boneless chicken dripping in Sweet Samurai flavour, a choice that’s very popular among Malaysians, with its glaze of soy, honey, ginger and Teriyaki sauce.

And oh, dining at a famous Buffalo Wings restaurant, how could we overlook a basket of Buffalo Wings? So we included it, hahaha! Our basket of 7-piece Original Wings with premium wedge fries and a garden of fresh vegetables was matched with Spicy Alabama flavour to enjoy the pleasure of gentle heat, sweet surrender and Cheesy blend from the Great South. This was a spot-on recommendation by the staff because there is no better way to savour the American Original Buffalo Wings than with a flavour from the Great South.

Those of us with a sweet tooth did not forget to wrap up the meal with a cup of Häagen-Dazs ice cream. In case you did not notice, Häagen-Dazs ice cream stick bars and mini cups are newly added to the Wing Zone Malaysia dessert menu, at RM10 each only. We always have room for ice cream and Häagen-Dazs surely concluded our meal on the right note.

By the way, the above mains that we ordered are Combo Sets, which means they come with a complimentary drink as part of the set, with free refills. One can always choose some other beverage from the menu, though these are charged separately, just like how the coffee addicts in our family ordered their daily dose of white coffee.

Wing Zone Meru Raya is a 2-floor restaurant with a large space on the first floor for private events. There is an ongoing special offer for dine-in, where the person who celebrates his or her birthday that month will enjoy a 50% discount on a single combo meal.
