Puspakom Gopeng (Perak)
Made my way to Puspakom in Gopeng the other morning. This is one of five Puspakom vehicle inspection branches in Perak. While Puspakom Ipoh in Paloh Light Industrial Park is closer to home, it is too crowded as many used car dealers go there daily. I was told they queue up as early as 6am, way before the gates are opened!
Even for Puspakom Gopeng, there were almost ten vehicles ahead of me when I reached at about 10.30am. And I thought I made pretty good time! As luck would have it, only one lane was opened for private-owned vehicles. I thought we would get through this quickly enough. Unfortunately, the first vehicle in the queue was a vehicle that had cannibalized parts (Oh noooo! Kereta potong)!
Almost ten vehicle inspectors crowded around the car, stripped it, went under it to check and check and check, while the rest of us waited, and waited and waited. For more than an hour! Can two heads really be better than one, as the saying goes? Apparently not. Even with ten heads, no one had the sense to divert the other vehicles to another inspection lane so that life could go on for the rest of the queue!
Luckily, my car was the second last vehicle to be inspected before the centre was closed for lunch. Vehicles that missed the boat would have to wait until lunchtime is over. Pity. It would be more productive if the staff had two lunch shifts so that the crowd could be cleared faster. Tsk, tsk, tsk…

Why do you need to get your car inspected?
Are you selling your car?
I thought Puspakom certification is required to renew my old car’s “Pool Insurance” but it’s no longer necessary beginning 1st June, 2011.
