Pulau Gemia (Gem Island), Terengganu

I also took time to check out one of the premier villas offered by Gem Island Resort & Spa. It is a sea-fronting double-story detached unit amidst lush forested jungle. It is very well-equipped, as you can see. One could live here for good. It’s unfortunate the resort is closed some three months every year because of the year-end rainy season.
Before leaving Pulau Gemia, we took the opportunity to release some baby turtles into the sea, although the best time to do so is around 6pm – 7pm. Anyway, we were able to do so as Gem Island Resort & Spa has a turtle hatchery, where staff of the resort would collect turtle eggs as soon as they are laid, and when they are hatched, take care and feed the baby turtles with jelly fish, until they are strong enough to be released into the ocean wilderness.
Turtle conservation is a major cause in Terengganu, and it is said that only one in a thousand baby turtles released would grow to adulthood. It is really a sad state of affairs, eh? So, let’s all do our part in turtle conservation.
