On our second day in Kuala Terengganu, we took a speed boat (about 20 minutes’ ride) out to Pulau Gemia (Gem Island) from Marang jetty. This is a privately-owned island, some 800 metres north of the more popular Pulau Kapas (Cotton Island).

As far as I know, the only resort on Pulau Gemia is the aptly named Gem Island Resort & Spa. Although we did not spend a night at the resort, we still had a good time there, swimming, snorkelling or just lazing around (me).

Since this was my second visit to an island in Terengganu, I have come to expect white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters. Pulau Gemia is no different. My snorkelling friends took no heed to the jelly fish and took to the waters to try to look for beautiful corals, which Terengganu islands are famous for, and also their fascinating marine life.

Many of the tourists that I chit-chatted with told me that they really liked it here. So did I. Wished it was a longer visit!
