PSPA Singers: Voices from Vienna to Broadway
After a short hiatus, the PSPA Singers returned with a bang, with a new music director in local soprano, Marianne Poh.
Their performance, entitled “Voices from Vienna to Broadway”, was an interesting programme of classic operas in the first half, and classic musicals in the second half.
The PSPA Singers were joined in by Sirikhwan Buathong (soprano), Salith Dechsangworn (tenor) and Thanis Sonkloe (baritone), from our neighbouring country, Thailand.
Marianne, Sirikhwan, Salith and Thanis each performed a solo piece at the beginning of the programme. Marianne sang “L’amour est un oiseau rebelle” from the opera Carmen, Sirikhwan rendered La Danza from Rossini, Salith sang Zueignung by Richard Strauss, and Thanis took on “Deh, vieni alla finestra” from Mozart’s Don Giovanni.
The second and third parts of the first half were arias from Mozart’s famous operas, Don Giovanni and Così fan tutte.
In the second half, it was time to switch from Italian to English. The audience was seen enjoying the timeless musicals; The Sound of Music, Miss Saigon and Les Miserables.
