One of Ipoh’s premier ballet schools, City Ballet, is back with its biennial school product next weekend. Celebrating its 30th anniversary, the school will be presenting “Alice in Wonderland”, with cast members, all students of the ballet school, ranging from 4 to 40 years old. Some 140 people will be involved in the production, with 30 of them behind the scene.
City Ballet’s school productions have always been charity fundraisers, and this year, the school has decided to raise funds in aid of Make-A-Wish Malaysia, the 35th affiliate of Make-A-Wish Foundation International, which grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions, as a source of hope and inspiration for them and their families at this difficult time.
With the cooperation of the Lions Club of Ipoh Evergreen, City Ballet hopes to raise at least RM50,000 through this production. Make-A-Wish Malaysia has agreed that all proceeds raised from this effort will be used to fulfil the wishes of Perakian children. So far, one child has already been identified.
Students from City Ballet have been busy rehearsing for Alice in Wonderland for the past two months. Coming from privileged backgrounds, they have always been taught the importance of giving back to the community. Participating in a fundraiser every two years serves as a solid foundation for a charitable heart.
This rendition of Alice in Wonderland sees the highlight of certain scenes from the classic story, such as the giant garden and checkmate. The duration of the production is about 1 hour 15 minutes, with 15 minutes intermission.
Admission to watch Alice in Wonderland is by donations of RM60, RM100 and RM150 or RM40 for students, those with special needs (OKU) and senior citizens.
