Perak HOMEX ’10 or Pameran Perabot Perak 2010 is the first ever home exposition in Perak. I find this rather strange since Perak is not a small state and we surely have more than enough homes that need to be furnished!
The exposition, organised by the Perak Furniture Makers & Dealers’ Association, started on 25th November, 2010 at Stadium Indera Mulia, Ipoh, Perak, and will end on Sunday, 28th Nov. I only managed to visit on Saturday, and was quite taken aback by the sheer size of the exposition judging from the number of exhibitors and the public who show interest in it.
Many activities have been lined up over these four days, from music performances to cooking demonstrations and colouring contests for children. On Saturday afternoon, there was a seminar on interior design by well-known designer, Eric Leong. On Sunday from 3pm to 3.30pm, there will be a talk on feng shui by Professor Chow.
Although this is supposed to be a home furniture exposition, exhibitors also included telecommunication services providers, credit card companies, car dealers and sellers of office furniture. The words “home” and “perabot” (furniture) in the name of the exposition are used very loosely.
Anyway, whatever that has to do with the home, you would be able to find it here at the exposition, especially bedding, living room furniture, bedroom furniture, furniture for pets, sanitary ware, home appliances, home decorative items, custom-made kitchen cabinets and hardware. I was looking out for stainless steel water tanks though but couldn’t find any here. Oh yes, there is an automatic gate exhibitor. Do you know that stainless steel water tanks and automatic gates are status symbols of Chinese families who have “made it”?
Most of the products here are on sale so this is really a good opportunity to furnish the house, though I don’t know if people here could afford to purchase big ticket items on the spot.
