As the largest kindergarten in Ipoh, possibly in Perak, Chung Shan Kindergarten was in need of more classrooms to accommodate its growing enrolment. It currently stands at 500, and is expected to increase with every intake. That’s because Chung Shan Kindergarten is the premier kindergarten in the city.
The development of the kindergarten was accelerated, thanks to the family of the late Mr. Tan Kor Sing, who made a partial donation of their ancestral home to the kindergarten. The Chinese place great importance in education and with land under the kindergarten’s trustee, funds were solicited to build an additional seven classrooms.
Indeed, on the morning of 11th Feb, 2012, I could almost hear a collective sigh of relief by the Board of Governors and generous sponsors when this dream of expanding Chung Shan Kindergarten was realised. The Second Finance Minister, Y.B. Dato’ Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah, was slated to officiate the new wing of the kindergarten but he was not able to make it due to his tight schedule. He was instead represented by his Political Secretary, Datuk Aminuddin Hanafiah.
