Muzium Negeri Terengganu

We made a brief stop at the Muzium Negeri Terengganu, the largest museum in Malaysia. I am glad we did as the building itself is a work of art. With the tagline, “Love the Museum, Love Our Heritage”, it houses a massive collection of artifacts from all districts of the state.

Muzium Negeri Terengganu
Terengganu State Museum

Terengganu State Museum, on Bukit Losong, Kuala Terengganu, was officially opened in April, 1996, just some seven years ago. Consisting of four blocks of the main museum, a maritime museum, five traditional houses and a landscaped garden, the total area of the museum is about 27 hectares.

I feel that the museum has plenty to offer tourists, even if one has no interest in artifacts. I tell you, a trip to the Terengganu State Museum is well-worth your time, if it’s only to check out the architecture!!

  1. My recent tour around Kuala Terengganu was in April 2010 (my periodic every 3 moth visits doesn’t count as it’s only work related and doesn’t have time much time for sight seeing and leisure) So, I went to the State Museum as part of the itinerary. However, it is very unfortunate that I have to highlight here that the majority of the exhibit was almost the same as those, where I have been in the year 2000. On top of all, the whole complex was in serious need of periodic maintenance.
