Miss Perak Culture & Charity Night 2014
It was a unique evening when the major cultures and traditions of Malaysia blended together for Miss Perak Culture & Charity Night, which saw the simultaneous crowning of Miss Kebaya, Miss Saree and Miss Cheongsam.
The pageant, which was Miss Perak Saree Queen previous years, had been organised by the Kinta Cultural & Tourism Association for the 11th year, in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2014. As with all previous editions of the pageants, this one raised RM10,000 in aid of charity. This year’s beneficiary was The National Autism Society of Malaysia.
The 18 contestants, six each in kebaya, saree and cheaongsam, with age ranging from 18 to 48, came from as far as Kuching, Sarawak, to participate in this one-of-a-kind pageant.
Right after their opening parade, it was the self-introductory round. Garnering the loudest applause from the audience for her guts and confidence was 48-year-old Jenny Tan Cheng Lee, a full-time dancer and dance instructor.
The contestants were narrowed down to the top two finalists for each category, and then they were once again judged for their eloquence in answering the two questions of what their costume meant to them, and to define the meaning of charity, from a personal point of view.
After some tense moments, the winners were declared and the queens were crowned by Melinda Yap, Mrs. Asia International Global 2012 & Timeless Beauty Queen 2014.
And the winners were: Miss Kebaya Nurul Natasha bt. Noor Abdullah Shafie, Miss Saree Sunita Kaur and Miss Cheongsam Tan Pi Yao.
Each of them took home a tiara, sash, trophy and cash. Congratulations to all the winners!
