Malaysia Property Expo: MAPEX 2014
It seemed to me that unlike previous years, the on-going annual property exposition organised by the Real Estate and Housing Developers’ Association (REHDA) Perak and supported by Ipoh City Council, is held on a more modest scale.
Nevertheless, at MAPEX 2014 (Perak) there are booths by 22 developers and five financial institutions to facilitate potential property purchasers.
The property developments showcased at MAPEX this year include those from within Ipoh, as far as Chemor and Tanjung Rambutan, as well as out of state developers with properties in Penang, Kuala Lumpur and Port Dickson.
Properties promoted this time are the usual residential homes, commercial units and condominiums. It is basically a one-stop centre to preview new properties of all kinds.
Organised for the 15th year now, REHDA targets 10,000 visitors over these three days, helped by the Biggest Car & Bike Fair 2014 that is being held concurrently, where luxury cars and super bikes are displayed and sold.
Due to the uncertainty of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) that will be implemented this coming April 1, bank restrictions on loans and the government’s efforts to control the overheating of the property market, the general outlook for properties at the national level is more subdued.
Nonetheless, this should augur well for Ipoh property developers and investors as properties here are still reasonably priced, compared to larger cities such as Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Johor Bahru.
As evident by the numerous property launches in Ipoh in the past three to four years, the slowdown in demand for properties in larger cities has benefited this city.
